Winter wardrobe updates–aka wide calf boots

So today I was doing my normal stuff, you know cleaning bottles, changing diapers, cleaning the mound of paper that seems to gather with a 5 year old and a newborn and I found a postcard from Ideel with an invitation to shop again for a nice incentive of $20 off my purchase. Now I am not one to jump right in and buy something just if I get a discount, etc.—oh who I am kidding. Yes I am.

I went to their site this morning figuring I would find something for either kid and call it good. But instead I was pleasantly surprised that they were not only offering discounted NARS makeup but also discounted wide calf boots. Oh and also the new line of clothing from Melissa McCarthy. Alright, I guess I will admit to the damage that was done.

After limiting my NARS purchases to just one $14 item, (that is nearly impossible for me people it really is) I went over to the Plus size section to see if they had anything that didn’t resemble something I would see when I trek into a senior center. I was pleasantly surprised that they were offering Melissa McCarthy’s items…but it was short lived and I was (and I absolutely hate to admit this) not lit up by anything of hers. The closest thing I fell in sort of like with were these hounds tooth leggings.

Melissa McCarthy Leggings

The rest of her stuff was super frumpy looking and baggy. I am all for covering up a little more than normal since that is what I typically do–but my word, everything was extremely oversized and I just know that they would do nothing for my shape. I would look like a sack of dirty, stinky, potatoes and then some. The leggings, pants and jeans were fine, but they all seemed cropped or oddly short. I like long pants Melissa! I like them to cover my ankle, not because I have a weird ankle phobia, but I like them to be as long as possible to give me a slimmer silhouette. For us gals with short and stumpy legs I like LONG pants. Please make me look super tall  dear pants and give me some hot and high shoes to go along with it. I like the illusion of long legs to go along with those LONG pants. This trick has made most people call me “tall” my whole life. Nope. Not really. Even if my drivers license claims I am 5’8…my Dr’s office would tell you I am bold face liar. Shh. Don’t tell.

Back to the website search. I am always on the look out for cute wide calf boots. Most boots claim to be wide calf and only have a 13-14 inch circumference. Uh, ya, that won’t work for most gals wanting wide calf boots. Give us 16-21 inch circumference and we are happy. But please don’t make the boots look ugly, gaudy or covered in weird buckles to somehow make the boots look less bulky. I found these today which have a 16 inch circumference and for extra wide come in 18 inch for the size I need.Wide Calf Boots

Depending on your shoe size, this does go up. They are sleek, clean and basic. Just what I want to go with absolutely everything. Leggings, dresses, skirts–oh now I can get some Melissa McCarthy pants since the boots will cover up how short the pants are. No ankle showing for me!

And now to disappoint you all, that was all that I bought. Boots and some Nars makeup. I was too chicken to buy the leggings since they looked too short, and we certainly know by now how I feel about short pants. BUT–if I were going to shop to my hearts contents, I would put these items into my shopping bag:

This Jumpsuit for $34.99? Huh? Adorable!

This Dress if I were going out for a special evening. (wait what is that…I have a newborn)
Fancy Dress
This dress if I liked short things and wanted to look sassy and grab a drink with the girls
These jeans which come in blue and black. Oh I guess I will take both.jeans
And the last thing—is this sweater. I LOVE this.

Do you see any sort of pattern here? If you haven’t learned by now, I tend to lean towards black in fashion.  I always have and always will. You can’t go wrong and it will almost never go out of style this way. It’s classic. I like to tell myself it’s the French way. Oh La la. Back to diapers. Enjoy shopping!

Please go buy this

For those of you that know me well, I am what you would refer to as beauty junkie. I covet new beauty products like a crazy person. I also obsess about skin care items and the next best thing to make myself look 13, uh I mean 25 versus the 37 year old lady I have become.
Some might say I don’t really look 37, whatever 37 looks like…or some might just say that I have nice skin and few wrinkles. Genetics? Probably, but I also inherited a nice case of Rosacia. My skin looks like I was caught climbing to Mt Everest and back without any cheek protection when I am sans fards (aka makeup free). I lit up like a red light district light bulb when I was embarrassed in school as a kid, no keeping my cool…it was written all over my face, so to speak.
Over the years I have tried everything to get rid of it, gobs of La Mer, Dermatologist prescription creams and any new product out there that claimed to help. I didn’t care how much I had to spend as long as I could go concealer free in public and look age appropriate. I finally caved and bought the Clarisonic Mia, and not because I had faith that this would finally be the answer to my skin care cries, but that it was cute and pretty skinned people were telling me I needed one pronto. So I did it. I have used it for over a year now and my skin is significantly softer, less breakouts, less obvious fine lines and yes, less redness.
The bottom line of this post? Go buy it. And yes…I am not afraid to admit that I watch infomercials at night. I was watching QVC last night and I found this gem of a deal. Now, mind you I already have a Mia, so I don’t need another one, and yes I have tried with all my might to convince myself to buy the Clarisonic Plus so that I can make my body look awesome too…but I just can’t justify it and I don’t need it. But maybe you do?
Go buy it and believe the raves. Give it some time, but trust me…you will see a difference. If you want to bump up the awesomeness factor of redness removal then buy this face cream: Pomega Healing Cream. I don’t think I will ever use another face cream again as long as this keeps doing the trick.

So lovely ladies out there and gentleman (my husband who so faithfully reads this), try out the QVC Mia deal and thank me later!

I have decided that I need to put a light hold on the spending for a few months so that I can get my life organized and my house clean. I have so much STUFF and I need to get rid of it. There are so many things that I have purchased and forgotten about, grown out of (me and my son) or just become bored of and I need to get rid of it.
Several years ago (before baby) I lost a lot of weight and decided I would NEVER wear specific sizes again, so I got rid of everything. Sold all of it. Now I find that I have more stuff. What in the world happened? Where did it all come from? I thought I got rid of all my clothes??!
Now that I have decided to stop spending and just tighten the reigns for a few months, of course I want to buy everything. But since I am not buying—let’s just window shop.
Catalog I got in the mail Anthropologie.

Since I am not a size 2, here is my online wish list for all of you to peruse. Perhaps you can buy a few of these and share with me. Or when you are done with them, hand them off to me. I will love them for you.

Hmmm….which one should I pick?

So many beautiful jackets, and I have no clue which one to pick. I have a standard black Calvin Klein Wool Coat that I bought from Nordstroms a few years back, but I am always trying to break out of black and add another neutral, or shocking color to my wardrobe. SO many things to pick from and I am having a hard time with this decision. I am leaning towards a tan or beige–somewhat pink tone, but with my son, I feel like the coat will have finger prints and stains after wearing it for 7 minutes. How about a winter white? Oh wait…I am forgetting quickly my dilemna for coat shopping. Must be easy to clean.

Help me pick people.

Saturday afternoon shoe shopping

I am a shoe junkie. I am not afraid to admit it, I will stand up in a room full of strangers and publicly announce it. I love me some shoes. When I was pregnant I decided to revisit the clog. I wore them in my early 20’s when the hippie vibe was in full swing, but I never fully committed to them as a comfortable shoe. As a pregnant lady, we try to make ourselves as comfortable as possible and putting high heels on just didn’t sound like anything fun whatsoever, so I purchased a pair of Dansko black clogs and loved them to pieces. Actually, it is almost impossible to get them off of me now and, umm…my son is almost 2. So I have no excuse to continue to wear them other than, hello? They are comfy people! Plus they give you a couple inches in height, and I don’t know many plus size women who don’t want to be taller. Makes us feel slimmer.
So I guess what I am trying to say is, I need to find some alternative clog shoes. These might just work. So cute it hurts.
Plus–they are on sale. Lovely.

Loving this website today

I love Asos. Seriously, I wish I had $5000 to spend there and also was a size 4. That last bit might be awesome since then I could buy all the tiny cute stuff that I would absolutely never wear. So many things to look at, not sure what to do here. I would say I could make an outfit of the day, but no one has put in a request lately (don’t blame them as I have been VACANT) so I would really be making one for myself. Probably the best person to make one for, but that doesn’t seem fun today.

My husband is sick, my little one is sleeping so I have been trying to do things this weekend that I wouldn’t normally be doing. Blogging seems to be one of them. I have had some free time and I don’t feel guilty leaving little man with big man while I take an hour to peruse the Internet and gather up some inspiration.

Lately inspiration has been in food. I have been a baking fiend. I have made so many blackberry (free) crumbles over the last week that I decided to go outside my comfort zone and make, **shocking disbelief* nectarine and blackberry crumbles. Yes, I am going absolutely insane over here. So creative it hurts. But they are delish. My inspiration comes from this lovely little blog.

So now back to clothing. Food, size 4…bad, bad.

Here are a few of my drool covered finds. I am absolutely in love with the poncho and cowboy boots. I know people, poncho’s are NOT flattering, but look at it? So cute, so funky! I feel like I fell from the 70’s rainbow sprinkled sky. And the cowboy boots? They remind me of this awesome pair of vintage boots I found in 1994 at this funky store in Berkeley with my friend Emily. We were very hip and super cool (shut up, don’t laugh–just pretend it was true) and we would browse these amazing thrift stores long before thrifting was popular and find really great pieces to wear out on the town. My best find? A purple suede military jacket. It is so awesome that I will never throw that one out. I wore that diamond the night I met my husband and he always tells me how sexy he thought I was in that coat. So yes, that coat has seen a lot and I am sure it has worn a lot of bar scent, not only by me, but by many in the 60’s and 70’s, but it is a true keeper. This coat sort of reminds me of the lines in my beautiful purple lover.

I did find a pair of awesome cowboy boots at that same place, but passed on them since they were a bit small. MAN, I should have bought them. These boots sort of remind me of them, minus the studs. Don’t know if I could pull that off. But I am willing to try. Mmmm, thrifting.

Ok, so aside from the thrift mimicking items, check out these hot pants and jeans?  And if I thought I could get away with it…or be a scary tall size 4, I would rock this outfit like it was the last day on earth.

I am super inspired by the 70’s today huh? Just call me Lonnie Anderson. That’s another story all together. Let’s just say she was my fashion icon and I couldn’t wait to grow up and look <act, dress, copy> like her on WKRP as well as Chrissy Snow. Who didn’t want to be Chrissy Snow? I wanted those side pony’s, super shortie shorts, great boobs and a drink from the Regal Beagle. And yes a little part of me died when Jack Ritter got married (and in real life passed away–so sad!). But I suppose the 70’s never dies and I still get a rush when I watch Cannonball Run and I still love the sound of disco music. Some things will never end. Perhaps this is why thrifting is so rejuvenating??

Ebay listing

I have finally put up a couple of mixed lot Ebay listings that I have been wanting to do for about 5 years now. The clothing just sits in my closet and I keep adding pieces to it that I no longer can wear or no longer want to wear. (Yellow Juicy Couture maxi dress–seriously Sara, did you really think about this purchase? I NEVER wear yellow..why now?)

So if you are interested in well taken care of clothing in a multitude of business pieces and some funky casual items as well–then check it out and BID now.

Lot #1

Lot #2

Working on my resolutions…

Here is a great online store to help anyone out there looking for comfortable and well fitting activewear. I am intrigued with a few of these pieces. It ALWAYS helps to have some great stuff to wear to make you actually want to go work out. And my broken Zune doesn’t help me any!!! UGH!! I need to get a new one so my musical motivation (yes, Britney Spears does it for me) keeps me going fast on the Eliptical.
Hopefully some of these will get you going towards some health and fitness for the New Year!

Buy me…sparkle for the night time!

Tis the season for gift giving and receiving, beautiful bright colors, white fluff and of course wondering if Santa has decided if you were exceptionally naughty or nice this year. I would like to think that either way you can celebrate this beautiful time of year with a little naughty or nice present for yourself and honey. I stumbled upon this beautiful website and found myself wanting to buy most of the treats they have. Be it naughty or nice, you can definitely find something to put into your dear honey’s stocking.
Here are a few of my suggestions since you need the extra body heat at night during these cooler winter months. I am guessing you won’t have any problems finding someone to snuggle up to.
